On Saturday 20th April, during the tea break in the 1st match of the new season, a friendly between the 1st XI and 2nd XI, we welcomed the thoroughly excellent Jan Skarbek to the ground. A superb tea from Slyvia was enjoyed by all and then, with some additional time added to the usual allocation available for tea, Jan gave a short speech and then declared the nets officially open by cutting the ribbon rather more easily than had been envisaged given he was using the world's bluntest scissors.
With an excellent turnout, Jan proceeded to face deliveries from those present, Jack and Jim being invited to bowl the first ever deliveries. Despite a variety of deliveries from various 1st and 2nd XI bowlers, Jan was untroubled, testament probably to the quality of the new surface. Perhaps I am doing Jan an injustice here.
Thanks to Superior Wigs and The Weapon for their video submissions which are attached to this article. Thanks again to Jan and his family for making this facility a reality. And thanks to all in attendance. I hope that the nets are something that benefit all of the SNCC community for many years to come.
