Skipper Chucky had no hesitation batting in a game reduced to 30 overs a side with the weather forecast not looking positive. Openers Driver & Marus got off to a fast start racing to 41 off 6 overs before the Skipper departed. Simon, joined by last season’s skipper Jim continued to take the attack to Horsley & Send smashing 9 4’s in a quickfire 49 before being bowled and given a rather bizarre send off by a screaming bowler.
Bails was then caught off a full toss that was nearer his throat than his hips but the decision stood. Billy then joined Jim and kept the run rate going, Billy with 3 successive 4’s and Jim’s 2 maximums before Billy was bowled.
In came The Rev who played positively before being totally stitched up by Jim, run out 22 yards.
Sam joined Jim who was then dismissed for a fine 65 in the last over as South recorded a competitive 199/6 off their 30. Jim now freed from the shackles of captaincy and it is great to see him enjoying his cricket so much . With the boys looking at the weather radars, it was clear that the rain was close by and Damo sent down 2 balls before a halt was called to the proceedings. Well done to the boys for covering the ladies wicket for Sunday to make sure they could play.
Next week, Chucky’s boys travel to Old Woking.
