A game too far by Big Dave Bowen

So SNCC traveled down to Loxwood which seemed to be in a Galaxy far.... far away. Anyway the team arrived at the ground in good spirits to a fabulous looking club house and a wicket that from a distanced looked ok (lol). On closer inspection it was also clear that many of the opposition may not have been ready and were still extremely hungover from the night before!

So onto the game. Our glories leader Alex Smith walked out won the toss and elected to bat. He sent in Matt “Van Gerwen” Lewis and along side him Jack “The Little Dog” Bellars still ponging from his century the day to get the game started. Sadly Lewis fell early and was clean bowled within the first over. Up stepped Mr B armed with Damien’s slag of bat. First shot 4 SNCC of to a start.... only for him to get clean bowled a ball later... SNCC 4/2 from 1... was this looking like an upper order collapse? Was it going to be like the 2nd team the day before?

No it was not! Freddie “I can bat like my dad” Marus stepped in and along with the 1st team skipper started to kick off SNCC’s charge and even after taking one to the helmet Freddie kept going along with JB. After some impressive shots sadly Freddie departed after being clean bowled. JB and him putting on a 54 partnership.

Then came the Captain himself! After snapping his bat in a fit of rage the day before (RIP Blitz) he rocked up to the crease with THE VENOM! His stint was not to last long however and was soon caught behind and out for 14. Up then stepped Sam Abaabuabbaaaabaulan and then he walked back.... enough said.

Then Simon “I’m retiring at some point but who knows” Marus rocked up. With JB telling him no stupid singles and don’t ball watch they got to work. The runs kept coming with JB and Simon ticking over nicely and dispatching the shit that came of a wicket that was shocking, it had more variations than my bowling!! Soon came JB’s 50 and soon after came his 100 followed by Simon’s 50. Sadly 100 was not on the cards for Simon and after getting an impressive 77 he was caught on the boundary.

JB kept going and kept going was he going to do it? He had his own personal best 153 (or something like that to aim for). He had his sites set on Lewis 158 personal best and Walkers 175. Then came his 150.... well done JB ... but he was not done yet! Reeking of BO he smashed 23 of the last over and demoralising a young boy for years to come. Jack finished on 177 not out (25 fours and 6 sixes) and batted the full 40. Well done to THE BIG DOG!!!

Let’s take a moment for Poor Lisha who would have to wash whites that smelt like they came from an inner city dump!

Anyway.... Then came the SNCC bowling attack with Poenie starting us off. Bowling some good lines on a variable wicket. He finished his spell with figure of 40/0 from 6 overs.
At the other end was Joe “Cap Man” Quevedo who as per usual bowled “yes you guessed it” in his hat. Like the weeks before he bowled well and kept to his standard 1 bad ball an over routine and finished with figure of 41/1 from 6. Replacing them was Alex “I snap my bats” Smith and Damien “The Angry wizard” Hutchinson. Both bowled well and left the batsman tied up and perplexed. During Smithy spell he too decided to demoralise the same young boy JB smashed about but this time bowled him sending his stump cartwheeling!! Smithy finished with 23/2 from 8 over. Very clean and respectable. Damien will forget his first two over of spin bowling but he will be pleased with his swinging that smashed through the Loxwood middle and finished with 43/3 from 9.

After those two stepped up David “my body can’t cope with 2 forty over games in one weekend” Bowen and “The Shiner” Mark. Mark bowled well and myself bowling a load of wank. At one point I decided I didn’t like the ball so I bowled a pie to allow the batsman to dispatch it over the club house so I could get a new one. Job done, new ball was a lot better. Myself and Mark then decided it was time to go home with Mark taking two great cleanly bowled wickets. He finished with figure of 4/2 from 2. It was now my turn if I didn’t get a wicket it would have been TFC for Bowen. I then saw JB looking sleepy in the outfield, so decided I’d wake him up by getting him in the game! Boom! With the ball flying high I knew the man in form wouldn’t drop one from me (11/1 from 4). Loxwood all out for 173 from 35 overs.

Time to drive that long arsed journey home once more. FYI Next’s week’s Sunday game is even further away ?.
