MATCH REPORT - SNCC Ladies v. Dulwich Ladies 8th September 2019

Our league team collaboration of Nutfield and Outwood ladies (Nutwood) hosted Dulwich Ladies for the last game of the season.

The British Weather was kind to us and we had almost a full team so already we were off to a good start. Skip won the toss and elected for us to field first.

Colette fancied a bit of wicky action and took charge of keeping - looking lively from the outset. Ella opened the bowling with great economy and our first wicket came quickly in her second over. Bowled cleanly, Dulwich lost their main contender giving an early boost to the confidence of Nutwood.

Megan matched Ella’s early performance taking the first of her three wickets and seeing off Dulwich’s remaining threat.

Text book fielding followed with Gabriella quick to the ball and straight into Colette who kept her cool slapping the ball into the stumps for a run out.

After drinks and a “composure” talk from skip we returned focused on the remaining 15 overs.

Energy remained high as we worked through the overs with great fielding out deep for Tracey, improved accuracy of bowling from Amanda ever hopeful of an LBW however she called it. Perseverance from Lucy eventually found the stumps and Gabriella - unlucky with some close calls in bowling - took a cracking catch off Ella who also had a hatrick game.

Nutwood went down to 9 players with Colette taking a knock to the head from a high ball. Dulwich no doubt regretted lending us a fielder who caught a bullet off Megan before she had any time to think about it.

Skip showed us how it was done with a simple slow ball on the stumps in her first over but was unlucky with two awkward drops off her own bowling.

Another confident run out brought Dulwich’s innings to a premature end in the 28th over and Nutwood were eager to chase down 103 on the board.

Slow and steady was the order of the day with just over three runs an over our target. That ruled out most of us on this season’s batting performance so Skip rose to the occasion and opened with Megan. A dubious LBW call from otherwise fair and pleasant Dulwich umpires ended a short spell for Skip just as she was getting settled and we started to twitch at the memories of earlier games where out batting has fallen apart. Megan kept us in the game after Amanda and Gabriella were bowled for Ducks and Ella caught. Colette joined Megan for a great partnership putting much needed runs on the board before being bowled by Dulwich’s Lyndsey who ended on a ‘fifer’ after Suzy’s short stint at the crease. Pressure was on for Lucy and Annalie to see us over the line which they did superbly with overs to spare. A tense and exciting end to a great game with a well earned win!

A perfect display of team work, positive attitudes and lots and lots of fun. A fitting end to a season which has seen so much improvement in the team with much promise for next year. Bring on the indoor season!
