Reigning Surrey Downs League champions South won the toss and had no hesitation in batting on a good looking wicket.

Despite the early loss of Smithy, followed by the sad demise of the legendary venom which was then deposited for burning sometime in November, Walker had his eye in and raced to 31 before holing out.

Simon joined JB who looked in fine form. The pair accumulated steadily between overs 10 and 20 and by the drinks break South looked well positioned at 110-2.

JB then shifted through the gears taking the Woldingham attack apart with shots all round the wicket in a masterclass of batting. JB reached 3 figures with yet another majestic 4, one of 18.

Marus, in more of anchor role reached his 50 at a run a ball as the run rate went ballistic. Marus was bowled for a fine 54 in a partnership of 175. JB’s marathon ended shortly after for 115 after being well caught. South 233-4 with 7 overs remaining.

Lewy, wielding the goose, joined Samir as the pair annihilated the tiring Woldingham bowlers. Both hit 6 boundaries with some fantastic hitting in double quick time upping the run rate to over 7.5 an over. South 306-4 innings closed.

Ben and Jason took the new ball, Jason removing both openers, the 2nd from a great slip catch by JB, his 200th catch for South.

Ben was building up a head of steam coming down the hill with the Batsmen looking uncomfortable with his pace. He got his just deserts with a wicket.

Elder statesman DG took over from his younger brother and quickly picked up a couple of wickets, Soumitra replaces Ben and also picked up 2 and with a run out, Woldingham were dire straights at 113-8.

South’s fielding became a bit sloppy as Woldingham rode their luck then finally DG picked up the 9th thanks to a fine catch by Ben, 3/18 for the veteran. Lewy then wrapped matters up as the visitors were all out for 169.

South look forward to welcoming close rivals East Horsley next week in what promises to be great encounter.
