A game of many dropped catches - by BDB

We turned up with what was undoubtedly the best captain and VC the 2’s had even seen. With grey sky’s over head and the temperature dropping rapidly we walked out onto the field to kick off the season.

The newly promoted 2’s ran on with great enthusiasm and with Damien already shouting “keep the ball up” the game began.

Alfie opened the bowling with Hanif at the other end. It was a slow start with us being slapped for the odd boundary every now and then... finally with a combination of good bowling from Hanif and quick thinking by Ash we had a run/ caught behind by Ash. Still unclear which it was but the score-book says run out so we will go with that!

Dylan was then brought on to freshen up the bowling attack and with that being said another wicket fell LBW.

After a quick interval (rain absolutely pissing it down) we walked back out onto the pitch feeling fresh! Only joking the temperature had dropped by several degrees and my nipples had turned to diamonds! Not cool English weather not cool. However, whilst still freezing my arse off Chucky pulled of an absolute peach of a catch and with the group huddle came the words we all wanted to hear “keep the ball of the grass” from Damien (that’s the PG version anyway)

As the game continued Farhan came into the bowling attack as did Damien. With both taking a wicket each. Tbh Mr Hutchinson should have had three but I unenthusiastically didn’t get to one in time and should have attempted to catch it. Whisky Rob attempted to catch a meteor hurtling at him! Resulting in a very bloody finger.

Unstepped myself taking a single wicket and getting slapped about by a champ at the same time. I was dropped 4 times but by that point Holmbury had finished 289/6. With Us registering I believe around 13 dropped catches and Billy muttering to himself.

So the batting...... let’s keep this short shall we I have maths and English lessons to be planning. Jan and ash opened. With Ash falling early. Up stepped Rob or Alex Smith? I couldn’t tell the bat certainly looked like Alex’s. Anyway he hit a magnificent quick 56 over taking Jan until he was caught. The overs continued and the runs needed per over grew.

Unstepped Chucky(CT) then Billy(CT) then Damien(B), myself(CT) and Dylan (not out). The game finished with Jan completing the inning (not out) on 68. We had lost finishing on 205/6.

With the game finished and cobwebs and rust scrapped off SNCC 2s look to the future with determination. Oh and the determination to catch a ball! Haha!

I finish by apologising for the late match report and it’s poor quality (zero spell check or grammar corrections) but I have lessons to plan, essays to write, books to mark and tears to shed. Kyle for all future match reports? All unanimous?
