The one that got away - by Progress Karamba

Still riding high from the victory of last weeks match, the team was rearing to go. The questions on everyone’s mind were, Will Progress (smelling like the holidays) do a repeat of last week? Will Leighton hit another 50 and completely shock us all again and will the skipper step up and stop complaining about his ‘’ still sore but I am thinking its bruised rather than broken’’ finger and lead the team like a true leader is supposed to? There was a lot of anxiety during the build up to the game ‘’stop focusing on opposition players and focus on performing as a team’’ commented Lewy who was accused of reading psychology books by our ‘’not sure if broken’’ finger skipper.
Anyway, back to the game, our skipper lost the toss (must have been the finger) and we were sent to field first. We got off to a great start and took the first two wickets in the first four overs, a superb catch by Harshad on slip and lbw bowled by Damo (the juggler). There were also some great catches from Dhillon and skipper who put to rest any uncertainties about the condition of his finger. Play had to be suspended temporarily due to light showers on the 30th over, after a brief stop and having decided to have tea while waiting for the rain to subside, the game was again under way only to have another interlude due a stray dog that had decided to join the action , this really angered the opposition keeper who seemed to be having a bad day for some reason. Billy (the dog whisperer) who happened to be on standby rushed onto the pitch to rescue the situation, his efforts where however met with resistance from our four-legged friend who only rushed back into the woods after hearing the yelling from the opposition keeper. Harshad bowled brilliantly taking 4 wickets and took two superb catches, Damo who was back after briefly stepping out due to his finger injury took a great catch after putting to use his juggling skills. The opposition put 224 on the score board for 9 after the 40 overs, a score that seemed not too difficult to chase
Ash and Chucky opened the batting for South and had a great 100 partnership. An impressive performance by the top order, Ash (93), Chucky (39) and Damo (26). Sadly, we fell short we were all out for 208.
