ALL STARS UPDATE - SNCC 2024

The ECB has recently conducted testing which has shown that a number of items used in our programmes, including the All Stars Cricket and Dynamos Cricket balls and the Dynamos batting tee, contain a group of chemicals widely used in plastics called phthalates.

The ECB has widely communicated this news both by way of an email directed at all applicable previous participants and via a variety of news outlets, so we are most likely bringing you an update that you are already aware of.

Please refer to the attached document for a further details on the equipment tested and at risk.

From the list above, the only items in use at SNCC are the yellow All Stars balls, the white Dynamos balls and the pink Dynamos balls. It is also worth noting that the white All Stars balls delivered with the All Stars packs you received in your homes are included in the above list.

The recommendation from the ECB on these items is as follows:

Out of an abundance of caution, existing All Stars and Dynamos plastic balls should not be used and we recommend using tennis balls instead.
The ECB has reported the matter to Trading Standards and the Office for Product Safety and Standards are also aware. Neither has indicated that a product recall is necessary in respect of the balls.

Whilst there is no requirement to cease the use of this equipment from a Trading Standards or Office for Product and Safety perspective, we have taken the view that the most appropriate decision that our club can pursue is to follow the advice of the ECB. As such, we will specifically be removing the affected balls from the club’s central stock of training kit. We are told that these will be replaced by the ECB before the season commences, but if not, then we will procure our own stock of wind balls or tennis balls to replace these.

A full list of the FAQs surrounding this investigation are available on the ECB website here: https://www.ecb.co.uk/news/3932408.

We have reduced our All Stars cost from £80 to £70 for the season to reflect the suggested reduction in course costs from the ECB.

Because of this supplier caused issue, the ECB has delayed the opening of the All Stars sign up websites. The priority window will open on April 3rd and the link to sign up to the SNCC All Stars classes will be: https://ecb.clubspark.uk/AllStars/BookCourse/65ab1486-b72e-460e-828d-352f97333e45.

If you follow that link now, you are able to register your interest and will be informed when the priority window is active.

One final note is that SNCC will NOT be running a Dynamos course this year. For any parents with children aged 8 to 11, please sign up with either our Under 9s or Under 11s squads.
