SNCC 1st XI Away vs Salfords CC 1st XI

South Nutfield 1st XI arrived at a very hot and sticky Salfords and after winning the toss decided to bat first. Chris Walker and Kyle Campbell opened up the batting for South Nutfield and got us off to a very decent start, with both batsmen starting off cautiously before finding their rhythm and pasting the Salfords bowlers to all parts of the ground. A waning Kyle Campbell (103 off 96) being the first batsman out after scoring his maiden century for the club – Score 202/1. Muhammad Fayyaz joined Chris at the crease and continued to push the scoreboard on. Chris Walker (84 off 88) was the next to fall – Score 224/2, which (much to the delight of the wilting Salford’s bowling attack) brought Jack Bellars to the crease. With a big score on the cards, Fazzy (30 off 22) was the next batsman to fall – Score 251/3, with Ben Donovan joining Jack at the crease. Ben (4 off 8) was the next victim (Score 260/4), and Joe Harrington (1 off 2) departed soon after – Score 278/5, to leave Matthew Lewis to face the last ball of the innings – for SNCC to post a respectable 279/5 off their 40 overs.
Salford’s response got off to a decent start, with the opening pair of Matt (8-0-33-0) and Wills (6-0-24-0) finishing wicketless off their spells. The next pairing of David Gentles (8-0-42-2) and Joe Harrington (7-0-35-3) making the breakthroughs and keeping the middle order relatively quiet. Fazzy (6-2-19-1) and Dylan Campbell (5-0-44-2) continued on and chipped in with a few wickets at the end, a late flurry of runs was not enough and Salford’s fell well short scoring 211/8 off their 40 overs.
29 points bagged and sights on next week where South Nutfield 1st XI host Holmbury St Mary’s 1st XI.

SNCC 2nd XI Home vs Salfords 1st 2nd XI

SNCC 2nd XI were Home to take on Salford’s 2nd XI, hoping for another win. SNCC 2nd XI won the toss and elected to bat first. Jim Paulett (17 off 45) and Simon Marus (7 off 19) opened the batting and got South off to a very steady start. After the fall of Simon, Matt Wright (46 off 48) started getting things moving, supported by Leighton Jones (12 off 21), with Alex Smith (62 off 35) extending his awesome run of form this season, putting the Salford’s bowlers to the sword. Prasad (6 off 14), Donovan King (22 off 15), Jordan Kohlbeck’s long awaited return was brief (12 off 8), Robin Paulett (0 off 13) made contributions, to leave Damien Hutchinson (13 off 10) and Simon Woodhead (5 off 5) the not out batsmen and SNCC’s Score on 231/9 off their 40 overs.
Simon Woodhead (2.1-1-5-0) and Prasad Singaraju (8-1-44-0) opened up the bowling for SNCC, but Simon pulled up short (hamstring pulled) after 2.1 overs and had to be substituted. The SNCC bowlers battled on with Simon Marus (5-0-34-2), Alex Smith (8-0-39-0), Damien Hutchinson (8-1-32-2), Jordan Kohlbeck (2-0-18-0), Robin Paulett (2-0-23-0) and Donovan King (2.5-0-23-0) completing the SNCC bowling, but alas it was not meant to be as Salford’s 2nd XI scored the winning runs off 38 overs – ending on 235/4.
Still 4th in the league table with not much of a buffer between us and the chasing pack - a tough one beckons next week as we travel to Ockham….

SNCC 3rd XI Away vs Blindley Heath XI

South Nutfields 3rd XI took the trip to Blindley Heath, joined by the ‘back from injury’ 2’s Captain, who wanted to give his finger a go before making a return to league cricket, taking the helm this week. After losing the toss, SNCC were inserted into the field to play fetch. An inspiring speech South Nutfield Captain Chucky got us off to a good start with the bowlers sticking to their task and producing some decent spells of bowling, with Elliot Saunders (6-0-29-0), Kieron Edwards (5-0-26-1), Chucky (6-0-36-2), Nigel Keohane (6-0-39-0), Liam Wainscoat (6-0-30-2) and Ella Gouldsborough (6-0-22-1) completing the SNCC bowling attack, Blindley Heath scoring a decent 194/6 in their 35 overs.
After the obligatory game of ‘rock, paper, scissors’ to decide who opens the batting, Lee Wainscoat (5) and Jai Kamaluddin (28) started off the chase. Bryan Leaver (21), Charlotte Gouldsborough (6), Toby Love (0), Chucky Driver (76), Ella Gouldsborough (20), Liam Wainscoat (16) Nigel Keohane (0) and Extras (20) all playing a valuable part in the chase to leave SNCC tantalisingly short on 192/9 at the close of their innings, brilliant effort by all and a big thank-you to Chucky for his inspiring leadership nearly getting us across the line.

Onto next week (Friday 23rd July 18:00) where SNCC 3rd XI are Home to Hermes Redhill, for their only T20 of the season.

SNCC Sunday XI vs Holmbury St Mary CC– VCL

A return to the VCL this week with SNCC’s Sunday XI at Home to Holmbury St Mary’s XI. HSM won the toss and surprisingly asking SNCC to bat first on another scorcher of a day.

Jack Bellars was again at his best (104 off 98), with Dylan Campbell (6 off 10), Freddie Marus (0 off 2) and Robin Paulett (1 off 12) not hanging around long enough in support. Mark Pereira (24 off 24), Alex Smith (20 off 15), Sam Abellan (14 off 13) all managing to get starts and then get out. Matt Lewis (0 off 3) and Damien Hutchinson n.o. (2 off 2) – bringing SNCC’s inning to a premature end on 236/10- off 36.5 overs.
In response HSM got off to a bright start, but once the two openers were out they didn’t really offer much resistance to SNCC’s bowling attack. Matthew Lewis (10-3-31-4), Alex Smith (7-2-20-1), Sam Abellan (7-2-17-0), Damien Hutchinson (7-2-24-2) and Dylan Campbell (2.2-2-0-2) completed the SNCC bowling lineup, bowling HSM out for 104 off 33.2 overs …. Another top of the table VCL match next week as SNCC Sunday XI take on Hambledon CC at Home in a 40/40 match..…
