SNCC 1st XI Home vs East Horsley CC 1st XI

South Nutfield 1st XI assembled early at a very damp South Nutfield and, once the showers abated, set about mopping up and getting the pitch ready for the game, under the close scrutiny of the opposition from the square. The start was delayed by half-an-hour and after winning the toss, East Horsley decided that South Nutfield should bat first. Chris Walker and Alex Smith opened up the batting for South Nutfield and got us off to a decent start, with Chris (18 off 28) being the first wicket to fall – Score 44/1. Jack Bellars joined Alex at the crease and continued to punish the East Horsley bowling. Soon after drinks, a rare loose shot from Alex (62 off 55) – Score 119/2, brought youngster Kyle Campbell in to support Captain Jack. Jack Bellars (53 off 54) was the next to fall with the score on 177/3. Kyle was briefly joined by Muhammad Fayyaz (5 off 5) and Joe Harrington (5 off 3) – Score 201/5, before he too succumbed for 30 off 49 – Score 201/6. Simon Marus and Matthew Lewis hit out in the last 6 overs and finished not out with 18 off 13 and 33 off 22 respectively – for SNCC to post a respectable 254/6 off their 40 overs.
East Horsley’s response did not get off to an ideal start with Poenie and Matt picking up a wicket a-piece in their first overs. This could have been a lot worse had South Nutfield managed to hold onto three dropped chances. Poenie finished off his spell with a respectable 8-3-30-3, supported at the other end by Lewy – 8-1-35-1. Joe Harrington (7-0-26-1) and Dylan Campbell (7-1-40-0) kept the East Horsley batsmen relatively quiet until Fazzy was introduced in support to mop up the tail (7.4-1-28-4), supported in the field with a run out from Poenie, with East Horsley falling short with 164/10 off 37.4 overs.
Maximum 30 points bagged and sights on next week where South Nutfield 1st XI host North Holmwood 1st XI.

SNCC 2nd XI Away vs East Horsley 2nd XI

SNCC 2nd XI were away to take on East Horsley’s 2nd XI, who were also struggling this season. SNCC 2nd XI won the toss and elected to field first. South Nutfield bowlers’ bowled tidy spells, interspersed with wickets to restrict East Horsley to a very reachable 162/6 off their 40 overs. With Simon Woodhead (8-1-37-1), Robin Paulett (8-0-26-0), Prasad Singaraju (7-1-21-3), David Bowen (8-0-36-0), Gabriella Abellan (4-0-15-1) and Damien Hutchinson (5-1-22-1) completing the South Nutfield bowling lineup.
In response a back on form Ash Mills (70 off 94) and Donovan King (17 off 15) opened the batting. Donovan was the first to fall, bringing all-rounder Prasad (30 off 66) to the crease to support Ash in search of victory. Courtenay Mills was next to join his brother and also made a valuable contribution, with victory achieved – only to be told we were 1 short, Ash was run out, which brought Damien to the non-striker’s end before Courtenay (not out with 35 off 22) hit the winning runs – 166/3 in 33.3 overs . A valuable 28 pts bagged and onto next week where SNCC 2nd XI are Away to Horsley and Send 3rd XI… And the climb up the league table continues….

SNCC 3rd XI Away vs Salfords 3rd XI

South Nutfields 3rd XI took the trip up to Netherne on the Hill in the hope of repeating the victory against the same opposition at the start of the season. A strengthened Salford’s 3rd XI won the toss and elected to bat first, amassing 179/6 in their 35 overs (no wait – batsmen runs + extras = 161, bowlers figures + fielding extras = 167, total = 179…. Don’t really know what the real score was but maybe Salford’s should take a scoring course.). South Nutfield bowlers stuck to their task and produced some decent spells of bowling, with Elliot Saunders (7-1-42-0), Nigel Keohane (5-0-11-2), Jai Kamaluddin (4-0-17-0), Archie Gouldsborough (7-0-20-2, welcome back Archie), Liam Wainscoat (6-0-43-1) and Freddie Marus (6-0-34-1) completing the SNCC bowling attack.
A confident South Nutfield 3rd XI started the response but never really got going, with none of the batsmen managing to stick around long enough to build any meaningful partnerships. What followed was a constant flow of wickets, 3 ducks, no-one scoring double figures (not even extras) and SNCC 3rd XI being bundled out for their lowest score of the season – 31/10 in 21 overs. Hard luck lads/ladies, better luck next time. Onto next week where SNCC 3rd XI are away to Abinger Hammer.

SNCC Sunday XI vs Reigate Pilgrims CC 1st XI – Friendly

With a bye in the VCL, SNCC’s Sunday XI went away to take on Reigate Pilgrims 1st XI in a Friendly match. Reigate Pilgrims won the toss and asked SNCC to bat on a very spongy pitch.
SNCC opened the innings with Muhammad ‘Fazzy’ Fayyaz and Robin Paulett, Robin was first to go (0 off 5) when he was caught in two minds and decided to gift his wicket to an eager gully fielder who gratefully accepted. Jai (fresh from the horrors of the previous day with the 3rd XI) batted superbly, offering valuable support to Fazzy, but eventually fell for 14 off 31. Damien Hutchinson (1 off 2) and Freddie Marus (0 off 4) did not hang around too long. Sam Abellan was bowled by a young spin bowler, who bowled a mixture of 1 decent delivery every 10 no balls (which weren’t called by the umpire Jimbo because he felt sorry for the lad), for 13 off 22 – but only found out afterwards that it should have been called a no ball (much to his delight). Fazzy eventually holed out for 53 off 60, which brought Joe Harrington to the crease. Joe battled on with Mark Pereira (3 off 10) and Dylan Campbell (0 off 2), until Alex Smith combined with him to build another meaningful partnership. The young no ball spinner eventually accounted for Joe (38 off 27), which brought last batsman Matt Lewis to the crease. Alex Smith was eventually bowled (51 off 30) to leave Matt not out on 12 off 11 – SNCC’s score ending on 199/10- off 33.3 overs.

In response Reigate Pilgrims got off to a shaky start, and realised how s**t their pitch actually was with SNCC’s bowlers managing to take regular wickets and dry up the runs. Matthew Lewis (9-3-13-3), Alex Smith (9-2-32-1), Joe Harrington (9-2-29-2), Dylan Campbell (5-0-31-0), Damien Hutchinson (5-1-15-2) and Robin Paulett (1.3-0-1-1) completed the SNCC bowling lineup, eventually bowling Reigate Pilgrims out for 126 off 38.3 overs …. A return to the VCL next week as SNCC Sunday XI take on Cranfold CC at Home in a 40/40 match..…

SNCC Womens 1st XI vs Godalming CC Ladies XI

The SNCC 1st XI Ladies went away to Godalming and after winning the toss decided to put Godalming Ladies in to bat. Some decent bowling from the SNCC Ladies restricted the Godalming XI to 128/10 off 27.5 overs. Ella Gouldsborough (4.5-0-17-3), Gabriella Abellan (4-0-8-0), Rhianna Patel (6-1-25-1), Megan Griffiths (4-0-12-3), Orla Chavasse (3-0-17-0), Daisy Wicks (2-0-15-0) and Rebecca Collins (4-0-21-2) completed the SNCC bowling attack.
The SNCC Ladies batting unfortunately faltered, with Ella (13 off 14) and Gabriella (12 off 22) the only 2 bats-people getting into double figures. Partnerships were few and far between and the SNCC Ladies were eventually bundled out for 67 off 20.3 overs, with Rebecca Collins being the not out bats-person on 5 off 9.
The next fixture for the Ladies XI is next week, Sunday 11th July where they take on Dulwich at Home (Merstham), where I am sure they can bounce back with a victory…..

South Nutfield CC – U12 vs Merstham CC U12C – Home

South Nutfield U12’s hosted Merstham U12C’s in the Under 12 Tier 3 Midweek East League. South Nutfield won the toss, elected to field first and restricted Merstham to 76/9 off their 20 overs (Net Score 231). With Lucas Ottley (3-1-2-3), Harriet Jones (3-2-17-2), Billy Hutchins (2-1-4-1), Theo Ottley (2-0-6-1), Jacob Love (2-0-3-0), Edan Lyon (2-0-15-1), Rudy O’Connor (2-0-7-1), Charlie Wainscoat (2-0-5-0) and Joshua Bate (2-0-9-0) completing the SNCC U12 bowling lineup.
SNCC’s U12’s chase got off to a great start but unfortunately after a rain interruption and fading light only 12 overs were batted in response, but that was enough to see SNCC U10’s home with a well-deserved victory, scoring 88/4 off 12 overs (Net Score 268). Contributions with the bat – Jacob Love (8 off 6), Harriet Jones (3 off 18), Billy Hutchins (10 off 11), Edan Lyon (-2 off 13), Charlie Wainscoat (9 off 16) and Rudy O’Connor (3 off 8). SNCC winning by 37 runs.

South Nutfield CC – U10 vs Reigate Priory CC U10C – Away

South Nutfield’s U10 side went away to RGS to play Reigate Priory U10C in a re-arranged Under 10 Tier 3 Sunday South East League fixture. After arranging an 8 a side match, Reigate Priory turned up with 10, and agreed to loan us two players in the field to play a 20 over game. South Nutfield won the toss and elected to field. Wickets were hard to get with two of Reigate Priory’s players scoring the bulk of the runs and proving to be far too good for a Tier 3 side. Theo Ottley (3-0-8-2), Finlay Bate (3-0-12-1), Ollie Davison (2-0-4-0) and Harry Mills (3-0-11-0) were the stand out bowlers supported by Seb Broddle (3-0-15-0), Finlay Lyon (3-1-17-0) and Alex King (3-0-19-0). Reigate Priory finishing on 100/5 in their 20 overs (Net Score 275).
In response South Nutfield’s batsmen were taken apart by some very good bowling (again not really accustomed to seeing such bowling in a Tier 3 side) with only one of SNCC’s batsmen (Sam Dobson) managing to return a positive net score of 3, and the others ranging from -17 to 0. South Nutfield finishing on 52/15 off their 20 overs (Net Score 177) and a loss by 98 runs..
