SNCC 1st XI Away vs Oakwood Hill CC 1st XI

A strong South Nutfield 1st XI were away to Oakwood Hill 1st XI. South Nutfield CC won the toss and elected to field first, which proved to be a very good decision. The Oakwood Hill batsmen really struggled to get South Nutfield’s bowlers away, with some very tidy bowling from our opening duo of Jason Gentles (8-0-30-0) and Matt Lewis (8-1-28-1). First change bowler’s, Joe Harrington (8-2-13-1) and David Gentles (8-1-42-2) added to the building pressure and kept it tight. With hardly a defendable score on the board and wickets in hand, Oakwood Hill took the attack to our last bowling pair of Dylan Campbell (4-0-31-0) and Muhammad Fayyaz (4-1-26-1) from the 33rd, to post 199/5 off their 40 overs.
Up stepped Chris Walker and Alex Smith to start the reply for South Nutfield. Carrying on from his devastating form in the previous week’s Slam game, Alex Smith set about taking the Oakwood Hill’s bowlers apart before being bowled for 52 off 18 deliveries – Score 67/1 in not many overs. Chris Walker continued to chip away at the total with Jack Bellars (2 off 7) and Kyle Campbell (0 off 1) not managing to stick around long enough to build a partnership – Score 71/3. Fazzy managed to stop the slide and score a respectable 46 off 42 – Score 146/4. It was Joe Harrington (31 off 26) and Chris Walker who carried his bat through the innings (70 off 92) who steered the SNCC 1st XI to victory in the 32nd over – Score 202/4, 27 valuable points bagged and sights on next week where South Nutfield 1st XI host East Horsley 1st XI at home.

SNCC 2nd XI Home vs Oakwood Hill 2nd XI

A buoyant SNCC 2nd XI were at Home to take on Oakwood Hill’s 2nd XI who were struggling this season. SNCC 2nd XI won the toss and elected to bat. With the veteran pairing of Jim Paulett and Ash Mills opening the batting for the 2’s, the pair got SNCC off to a decent start before Ash Mills was caught for 18 off 31 deliveries – Score 53/1. A tiring Jim Paulett was next to go with a respectable 41 off 48 – Score 72/2. A game would not be the same without the customary middle order collapse with Jan Skarbek (1 off 10), Matt Wright (16 off 21) and William Jones (1 off 10) departing to leave South Nutfield 2nd XI on 82/5. Our beloved veteran, Simon Marus and Leighton Jones steadied the ship before Leighton was run out for 16 (off 13), with his calf muscle acting up again – Score 124/6. Damien Hutchinson joined Simon at the crease to continue the fight back, until he was bowled for 11 off 9 – Score 149/6. That brought Robin Paulett (aka ‘The Raptor’) to the crease to continue the resurgence. Simon and Robin fought back until Simon was bowled for 39 (off 43) – Score 162/8. Simon Woodhead did not last long when he was caught for 3 off 12 deliveries – Score 186/9. The last wicket pairing of juniors, Robin Paulett and Joseph Quevedo, batted superbly to deny Oakwood Hill full bowling points, with Robin (28 off 27) and Joe (16 off 13) ending the SNCC 2nd XI innings on 219/9 off their 40 overs.
With a very defendable score on the board SNCC took to the field to take on the ‘Ely’s’. The opening bowling attack of the two Simon’s did not last long with Simon Marus not feeling it after 1 over (1-0-12-0) and being replaced by Robin Paulett. A change which proved to be valuable with Robin taking the first wicket. Simon Woodhead bowled economically and was unlucky not to take a wicket (8-2-20-0). Damien Hutchinson replaced Simon W and was rewarded with a good spell (8-1-33-1), with Robin Paulett finishing off with superb figures in his spells (8-1-40-3). With wickets starting to tumble, Joseph Quevedo (4.5-0-28-3) and William Jones (7-1-33-3 – bowling spin), mopped up the tail to end Oakwood Hills chase and dreams on 176/10 off 36.5 overs. Full 30 pts bagged and onto next week where a resurgent SNCC 2nd XI are Away to East Horsley 2nd XI… Keep it going lads.

SNCC Sunday XI vs Ashtead CC Sunday 1st XI – VCL

SNCC won the toss and elected to bat on a cloudy day, with heavy showers expected later on in the afternoon, and the Ashtead Captain and Groundsman telling us repeatedly that if the heavy showers do arrive they would have to put the covers on to protect the pitch for their 1st XI game during the week.
With that in mind SNCC, opening with Matthew Lewis and Fazzy, set about scoring as quickly as possible. Matt Lewis first to fall (19) and Fazzy top scoring (76), with numerous partners (who didn’t stick around for long) in Kyle Campbell (9), Billy Saunders (1), Alfie Wainscoat (7), Sam Abellan (13), Dylan Campbell (8). Until Alex Smith (30), Chris Wigley (54*) and Mark Pereira (20*) finished off with a flurry to post 251/9 in 44 overs. This left 41 overs for Ashtead to chase down the score or achieve a better run rate than SNCC to get the winning draw.
SNCC opening duo of Alex Smith, ending his spells with 10-2-42-1, and a struggling Dylan Campbell (7-0-42-1), managed to get SNCC of to a decent start. With Chris Wigley (10-0-70-2) and David Bowen (8-0-46-1) having to bowl through continuous drizzle with no means to dry off the ball offered by the home team (until Smithy produced a bath towel from the back of his car). The rain continued to fall and the SNCC bowlers continued on, bowling with a bar of soap. With Fazzy (4-0-15-0) and Matt (2-0-11-0) ending the SNCC’s 41 overs. No halt in play, nor the threatened covers being put on, as Ashtead strived to achieve the magic score of 234 to secure the winning draw – but ending tantalisingly short on 233/5 off their 41 overs. A gutsy performance in shocking conditions earning SNCC the winning draw…. A break from the VCL next week as SNCC Sunday XI take on Reigate Priory Pilgrims in a friendly, behind the Red Lion Pub in Betchworth…

SNCC Womens 1st XI

Wednesday 30-Jun-21
SNCC Mavericks vs Hermes Redhill – Mid-week Slam

The Mid-week Slam play-offs with the teams finishing the group stage in 1st and 4th position playing off against each other, and the teams finishing in 2nd and 3rd position forming the other play-off match. With that in mind a younger than usual SNCC Slam side was selected to take on Hermes Redhill – (not to be taken lightly after their group stage win over Reigate Priory – due to Reigate Priory conceding as they did not have a ground to play at)
At the time of writing the scoresheet was not available on Pitchero, so from memory SNCC won the toss and elected to bat first, posting a mammoth 180/6 in their 20 overs. Unfortunately Hermes Redhill did not get close with SNCC’s bowling managing to get them all out in 15 overs for 60-odd.
SNCC into the semi-finals against opposition unknown….
